On Siegfried Zielinski:
Siegfried Zielinski studied theatre, modern German literature, linguistics, semiotics, sociology, philosophy, and political theory in Marburg and Berlin, at the Free University and the Technical University. His Ph.D. dissertation in 1985 on the History and Cultural Technique of the Video Recorder became the book “Zur Geschichte des Videorecorders ”

In 1993, Zielinski was appointed Professor of Communication and Audiovisual Studies at the Academy of Media Arts Cologne; where, in 1994, he became its Founding Director.

In 2007, Zielinski took the chair in media theory at Berlin University of the Arts. He also teaches techno-aesthetics and media archaeology at the European Graduate School (EGS) in Saas Fee, Switzerland, where he holds the Michel Foucault professorship and he is director of the International Vilém-Flusser-Archive. Variantology.
On Deep Time Relations of the Arts, Sciences and Technologies

Our work on deep time relations between arts, sciences, and technologies does not seek to re-invent the concepts of the media or the arts. The aim is to open up both media and the arts via their interactions with scientific and technological processes. It is our hope that media experts will see their research areas in a broader light than before, and that disciplines which have so far not participated in these discourses (such as theology, classical studies, many areas of the history of science and technology) will develop an openness for media questions. Right from the beginning Variantology/Archaeology of the Media was conceived as an international research and exchange project. variantology.com/

On Ivan Ladislav Galeta

Galeta is one of the most definitive artist-filmmakers of the second half of the 20th century and one who has led a life true to the paroles of his artwork. A romantic artist rather than an entrepreneurial globe-trotter, he promoted the work of others as much as his own and was a constant seeker of new, captivating methods with which he would merge social purpose and art.
With a creative activity that spans over forty years and includes photography, installations, sculpture and object art, performance, video-art, expanded cinema, sound and TV interventions, and the written word, Galeta’s films appear to be only a fraction of his legacy. Indeed his single-channel filmography, the basis of this presentation, ends before the 90s. From then on he will continue with more conceptual art pursuits; the blending of his video art and his work as a custodian of the biosphere produced the ENDART series. T (EYE) is one of the 18 elements of the ENDART 5 (2008), presented here to remind that Galeta has not only worked extensively on video in his later days but that he has indeed used it from a very early stage. tiff.filmfestival.gr/default.aspx?lang=en-US&page=721&SectionID=86
